Actress Jada Pinkett Smith isn’t known to hold back, so it’s no surprise he was refreshingly honest about her business on a recent episode of her Red Table Real Talk.
The star revealed that she had undergone three vaginal rejuvenation treatments and now, “When I tell you my vagina feels like a 16-year-old, I’m not kidding,” she said. “I’m talking about the outside world. It looks like a pretty little peach.”
Pinkett Smith also shared that she had undergone the non-surgical procedure, which uses a heated rod that moves in and out of the vagina to stimulate cell cycle, for her bladder problems.
If you’re curious about revamping your bay, here’s what you need to know.
Who is it for?
According to Dr. According to Patricia A. Wallace, MD, FACOG and Board Certified in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery, there are many reasons why women in their 20s to 50s should consider vaginal rejuvenation treatments.
“In our twenties, when we’re probably doing higher-impact exercise, our collagen, elasticity, and muscle production starts to slow down and can’t respond to the damage from our activities and diet as quickly,” she tells Organic Authority. “Alcohol, poor sleep, poor hydration and tobacco use further accelerate the damage.”
Women in their 30s who have had vaginal deliveries may find the procedure helpful for weakened pelvic floor, tone, sensation, as well as any pain, urinary incontinence or sexual dissatisfaction.
Women in their 40s may begin to have hormonal changes that further affect pelvic wellness, while women in menopause or after 50 may experience “the change in our skin, including the inner and outer feminine tissues, becomes much more obvious, both visually and functionally. Sexual well-being is affected by dryness, laxity and reduced sensation. Functional wellness can be affected by urinary problems such as frequency or leakage.”
Is the procedure necessary?
Since the term “vaginal rejuvenation” has been broadcast from health magazines to “The Real Housewives,” is the procedure a necessity or just for cosmetic reasons?
If you suffer from bladder problems like Pinkett Smith, vaginal resuscitation can change your life.
“Overactive bladder (OAB) is not a disease, but rather the name for a group of bladder symptoms, including urgency, frequency, and urge incontinence,” says Dr. Jeffrey Dell, MD, FACOG, FPMRS, FACS, at Organic Authority.
“It is a very common condition and it is estimated that more than 1 in 3 adults in the US live with symptoms of OAB. Urgency is a strong or sudden need to urinate that is difficult to control. One of the most exciting new treatments that holds great promise for treating bladder symptoms, including OAB, is Radio Frequency’, which is used for vaginal rejuvenation treatments such as ThermiVa.
Dr. Wallace also adds, “A common myth about vaginal health and sexual well-being is that older women or women who have had babies are the only women who suffer from changes in their gynecology. The truth is, by our mid-20s, our entire body’s collagen production declines by nearly 2% per year. This affects our sexual and pelvic well-being in many ways. Early awareness of women’s wellness options can change the course of a woman’s pelvic health.”
However, like Dr. Lauren Streicher he told Health“The very term ‘vaginal resuscitation’ is problematic because most vaginas do not need resuscitation. It’s fine the way it is.”
Is it safe?
Not much research has been done on the procedure, however, says Dr. Dell, “This treatment has been used safely for many years by dermatologists and plastic surgeons on the face and body and in recent years.”
He adds, “Many clinical studies are underway, including at our center, and initial experience is promising. This treatment is done in the office, does not require anesthesia, does not involve pain.”
The Takeaway
Although there isn’t much research to support the effectiveness of vaginal rejuvenation, the treatment seems to work for many women, including Pinkett Smith.
The jury may be out on this one, but the actress remains one of her biggest fans, if only because she believes in the power of gimmicks.
“This is our life force. is concentrated there.”
