First visits to a new dentist can be nerve-wracking. Whether through incompetence or fraud, things are not always guaranteed to work out. But for one woman, a routine visit to the dentist turned into an absolute nightmare.
Caitlyn (@caitlynweld) shocked millions of viewers when she posted a five-second TikTok on July 15, showing her at the dentist’s office with a smile that reveals her teeth, shaved and prepped for veneers.
Captioning the video, she claimed a dentist shaved her teeth without even asking, leaving viewers stunned.
Since then, the video has exploded, garnering over 22 million views. Many viewers ask a very simple question: How does someone “accidentally” shave their teeth?

The time of history
To answer that question and provide more context, Caitlyn, who has nearly 10,000 followers, posted a follow-up “storytime” video.
“Okay, it’s story time. Okay, first, these are my teeth now. They’re not real,” Caitlyn begins.
He says he initially went to the dentist for a root canal because of a cavity. With her grandparents footing the bill, she trusted the dentist, despite a language barrier that left her confused about the details of the procedure. “I just nodded and just kept going,” he admits.
Responding to commenters who questioned how she didn’t realize what was happening, Caitlyn says she didn’t have a mirror during the procedure and only saw her shaved teeth after her roommate showed her a video taken right after the procedure. “It was like my first time seeing my teeth literally shaved,” she says.
The dentist, according to Caitlyn, claimed that the severity of the cavity required preventive measures for her other teeth. “I was like, OK. Like, I was dumb. I was 18. I had no idea about teeth, nothing. So I just got on with it,” he says. She says she continued to see the same dentist for over a year, unaware of the unnecessary work done on her teeth.
It wasn’t until she returned home and visited her regular dentist that she learned the full extent of the unnecessary procedures. “They said it wasn’t necessary to do all that work. And my parents are angry,” she says. Despite her family’s dismay, Caitlyn says no legal action followed, unsure if it would be worth suing years later.
“If it’s like a lack of education on my part, I totally understand. But I asked questions, I wasn’t informed, I didn’t have root canals or cavities or anything on the other teeth,” Caitlyn reflects. She regrets the ordeal. She notes that her veneers, while not drastically different, have caused problems such as gum bite, which she hadn’t experienced before.
Caitlin refuses to tell the dentist.
To clarify her intentions, Caitlyn adds, “I’m not criticizing any dentist or dentist company or location or anything. I kept it a secret because I didn’t want it to reflect on them personally. It’s just something that’s funny. It happened years ago. I’m still dealing with it, and it’s just one of the things I’m still talking about. But I’m not trying to find anyone.”
@caitlynweld it wouldn’t upload directly from tik tok. Again I’m not coming for anyone, there’s a reason I kept the dentist and location a secret.
Veneer Hazards
Caitlyn is having issues with her gums, which she is just one of the dangers of getting veneers. People with veneers may also experience increased tooth sensitivity, mismatched teeth, increased risk of tooth injury, and general discomfort.
Overall, there are more cons than pros, according to WebMD. And the whole process is quite expensive—costing $900 to $2,500 per tooth—and irreversible.
While it looks like Caitlyn got her veneers done in one visit to the dentist, WebMD states that the process will take about three trips to the dentist.
