In 2022, approximately minimally invasive procedures were performed, with dermal fillers being the second most performed treatment.1 As the demand for these injectables increases, so does patient insistence for a more natural result. Dr. Michelle Henry, a board-certified dermatologist in New York, agrees with them. “When I approach a patient, I don’t seek to copy others,” he says. “I look at their unique features, the dynamic movement in their face. I want to make them look like themselves, but renewed and restored.” To achieve a natural-looking result, there are four key factors that providers and patients should consider, he says.
Personalization
“The first thing we look for is the ability to personalize treatment plans, because every person is different and has different needs,” says Dr. Henry. A filler brand she says offers her “the toolkit I need to give my patients personalized and personalized results.” Restylane.
“Restylane has a diverse portfolio of products specifically for under eye shadows, mouth braces, jaw line, cheeks, chin and more.”2 she says.
Innovative Tech
“The second thing is innovative technology,” Henry says, noting that filler brands like Restylane are evolving to allow for more personalized treatments. For example, the brand uses two complementary gel technologies for treatment effects: NASHA and XpresHAn.
“NASHA technology is all about lift and precision.”3.4 says Doctor Henry. “Gives [the face] a fine, firm structure to fight the signs of aging. XpresHAN technology provides contour and movement, so when you smile, laugh and enjoy life, the filler moves with you.”5,6
Security
“The next thing is the legacy of the product,” says Dr. Henry. “You want to make sure it has a proven safety record.” He says he trusts Restylane because it has been on the market worldwide for 26 years and is used in more than 65 million treatments.7,8 Restylane products also offer a safe, effective and natural result that allows people to achieve their aesthetic goals.2.7
Results
Finally, you want to choose a product that has proven results. “During your Restylane treatment, you will see almost immediate improvement,” says Dr. Henry. “After a few weeks, you’ll see your end result: a long-lasting reduction in fine lines and wrinkles.”2

The safety of use during pregnancy or breastfeeding has not been studied. Tell your doctor if you have a history of scarring or pigmentation disorders as these side effects can occur with hyaluronic acid fillers. Tell your doctor if you are planning other cosmetic treatments (eg lasers and chemical peels) as there is a potential risk of inflammation at the injection site.
Tell your doctor if you are taking medicines that reduce your body’s immune response or affect bleeding, such as aspirin or warfarin, as these medicines may increase the risk of bruising or bleeding at the injection site of the gel. The use of these products on gel injection sites with skin sores, pimples, rashes, hives, cysts or infections should be postponed until healing is complete.
The most common side effects are swelling, redness, pain, bruising, headache, tenderness, swelling, itching at the injection site, and impaired hand function. Delayed onset of inflammation near the site of dermal filler injections is one of the known adverse events associated with dermal fillers and has been reported to occur at the dermal filler treatment site after viral or bacterial diseases or infections, vaccinations or dental procedures . Typically, the reported inflammation responded to treatment or resolved on its own. Serious but rare side effects include delayed onset of infections, recurrence of herpetic rashes, and superficial necrosis at the injection site. The risk of inadvertent injection into a blood vessel is small, but it can occur and can lead to serious complications, which may be permanent, such as vision problems, blindness, stroke, temporary crusting or permanent scarring of the skin. As with all skin injection procedures, there is a risk of infection.
