IT’S one of the biggest dental trends in the world – the so-called turkey teeth.
But now a dentist has revealed the shocking truth Really it happens beneath the gleaming white veneers.
Particularly popular in the world of influencers, celebrities and Love Island stars, veneers are often seen as a cosmetic procedure used to treat a variety of concerns, be it chips, cracks or discolored chips.
Either permanent or clip-on veneers are made of porcelain and cover only the front surface of the tooth and can last 10 to 15 years.
But as the industry booms and each year more than 35,000 British and Irish citizens fly to Turkey to flavor the procedure on the cheap, one dentist has spilled the beans about what goes on inside your mouth.
In a crude video posted on TikTok, the dental guru known only as Dr. P., took a look at the real teeth behind a client’s white porcelain veneers.
Although to strangers it may appear that the woman has the perfect, mega-white Hollywood smile, the reality is slightly different, leaving thousands horrified.
Once the Beverly Hills-based dentist lifted one of the front veneers, die-hard viewers could see the natural tooth, which had been drilled to extreme levels.
The mini tooth was also significantly darker than the pristine white veneers on top and had slight discoloration.
Since it was shared on the platform where the dental professional posts under the username @smilesbydrpthe video has gone viral, garnering nearly 2 million views in less than a week.
Horrified, hundreds took to the comments to share their thoughts, with one writing: ”This is why veneers stink.
Someone else wanted to know: ”How does the real tooth stay clean when you can’t brush it with the veneers?”
Another said: ”So the real tooth just rots underneath.”
“I think I’ll just keep brushing and be happy with my slightly stained teeth,” concluded the fourth.
Why does your breath have a bad smell after getting veneers?
Ideally, porcelain veneers should not cause odors – but as the experts at West Humber Dentistrythis is not always the case with every patient.
They noted that if you notice a persistent bad breath in your mouth, it indicates that something is wrong with your oral cavity.
Some of the reasons for bad breath after getting veneers on your teeth are:
- Poor oral hygiene – allowing plaque and calculus to build up on tooth surfaces and around veneered teeth.
- Cavities and tooth decay – there could be a high chance that your tooth is damaged under the oral veneer.
- Gum disease
- Problems with your digestive system
“Additionally, if veneers are not properly sealed or bonded to your teeth, plaque, food and drinks can gain access to the space between the veneer and the tooth, causing bad breath, staining, tooth decay and gum disease.” as reported by The Tab.
How to get rid of bad breath with veneers?
Overall, the best way to deal with halitosis – a term for persistent bad breath – is to see a dentist for treatment.
Fortunately, there are also some easy tips that can help:
- Drink plenty of water to neutralize the acidity in your mouth.
- Use mouthwash
- Stop smoking
- Reduce your alcohol consumption
- Clean your teeth and mouth properly.
