RENO, NV–(Marketwired – Nov 5, 2014) – According to the most recent statistics released by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), abdominoplasty it is the fourth most popular cosmetic surgery procedure performed in the United States. This body contouring procedure, commonly called back surgery, is used to remove excess skin and fat in the abdominal area as well as to tighten loose abdominal muscles that have been stretched due to pregnancy and/or significant weight fluctuation.
“Tummy tucks or tummy tucks are one of my favorite procedures, mostly because there’s such instant gratification,” she says. Reno plastic surgeon Tiffany McCormack, MD. “Often, this is a part of a woman’s body that hasn’t improved with exercise — maybe because the muscles are stretched, they have a lot of stretch marks in the lower abdomen, or the skin is stretched out and all the abs in the world aren’t helping. That’s where I come in.”
In her practice, Dr. McCormack offers two tummy tuck techniques — a mini tummy tuck and a full tummy tuck — both of which may involve some degree of liposuction depending on the patient’s needs. About difference between a mini tummy tuck and a full tummy tuck, says the former is generally done “when loose abdominal muscles and a minimal amount of excess skin is confined to the lower abdomen,” while the latter is usually used when these indications are present both above and below the navel. Although both procedures involve excision of excess skin and tightening of the abdominal muscles, she notes that a full abdominoplasty is often considered more extensive and may require a larger incision.
Regardless of the length of the incision, Dr. McCormack says possibilities belly scars it can generally be hidden by clothing, including many varieties of bikinis and underwear. Additionally, the Reno plastic surgeon reveals that tummy tuck scars can often be incorporated into a previous C-section scar, if one exists. To help reduce the appearance of scarring, she advises patients to rest and limit strain/strain on the abdominal area throughout the healing process.
Ultimately, Dr. McCormack considers tummy tuck surgery to be one of the most rewarding cosmetic procedures available. While some procedures can take several weeks to show results, she says abdominoplasty is unique: “[Patients] they can see an immediate result when they come for their first post-op visit. This is very satisfying.”
