An exciting new medical practice — Raggio MD Facial Plastic Surgery — is now open in downtown Homewood.
Led by Dr. Blake Raggio, a highly skilled Facial Plastic Surgeon, the facility focuses exclusively on providing patients with the latest cosmetic and cosmetic procedures for the eyes, face, nose and neck.
Dr. Raggio has dedicated his entire career to becoming an expert in these procedures. Not only has Dr. Raggio received extensive training in both Facial Plastic Surgery and Head & Neck Surgery, but he has continually refined his techniques over the past several years in practice.
“We are able to provide patients with the safest, most up-to-date techniques to effectively achieve their goals,” he says.
Procedures are performed at the Raggio MD office which represents a state-of-the-art medical facility with no detail overlooked.
Dr. Raggio says he is “thrilled” about his practice, which opened in January at 1920 Huntington Road.
“Opening a private practice has always been my ultimate goal, and we couldn’t have found a better location,” he says.
Homewood is centrally located, allowing easy access for patients from the entire Birmingham area, including Mountain Brook and Vestavia Hills.
Additionally, downtown Homewood “has an upscale yet welcoming atmosphere and is the perfect setting for our boutique practice,” says Dr. Raggio.
“From a surgical perspective, we are excited to share our expertise in cosmetic rhinoplasty and facial rejuvenation procedures, including face, neck, brow and eyelid lifts,” says Dr. Raggio. “In addition, we will provide non-surgical options including Botox, dermal filler and other medical spa treatments such as laser skin resurfacing and radiofrequency microneedling.”
Raggio MD is the only cosmetic plastic surgery center in the area that offers in-house hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which promotes faster healing, less bruising, minimizes complications, and enhances the overall outcome.
Dr. Raggio earned his undergraduate degree at Louisiana State University and his medical degree at LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans.
He completed an extensive residency in Head & Neck Surgery at Tulane University Medical Center. Dr. Raggio then completed a highly competitive fellowship program in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Toronto with renowned rhinoplasty and deep facelift surgeon, Jamil Asaria.
He is double certified in both Facial Plastic Surgery and Head & Neck Surgery.
One of the most sought after and favorite procedures of Dr. Raggio is rhinoplasty.
“I have great confidence in performing rhinoplasty on patients of all shapes and sizes, including teenage, male, ethnic and Asian rhinoplasty concerns.” Beyond primary rhinoplasty, Dr. Raggio also specializes in performing revision rhinoplasty for patients who may not have had a good first surgical experience. “We’re talking about complex revision rhinoplasty, which requires the use of rib cartilage and other advanced techniques,” he says. “I have vast experience and expertise in the field of rhinoplasty and am excited to offer these modern rhinoplasty techniques to Birmingham and the surrounding area.
Dr. Raggio is also an expert in doing full-face surgical resurfacing in which a patient undergoes multiple procedures at once.
“We do more than the usual blepharoplasty or facelift, but focus on plump rejuvenation by applying cutting edge treatments such as full face fat grafting, lip lift surgery and deep face and neck lifts. lifting techniques,” he says.
Both rhinoplasty and full-face rejuvenation are “extremely rewarding procedures, and the results are often life-changing,” says Dr. Raggio.
His practice also offers the best in non-surgical facial rejuvenation, including “full-face botox treatments and filler treatments that are truly safe, modern and effective techniques,” he says.
Dr. Raggio and his wife, Kristin, who is a registered nurse, co-own Raggio MD, and Kristin serves as practice manager.
New Orleans natives, Dr. Raggio and Kristin moved to Birmingham in October and now live in Mountain Brook. They have a young growing family, with three children and a fourth on the way.
It is very rewarding to open and run a business with his wife, says Dr. Raggio.
“I wouldn’t trust anyone else more to not only run the practice but interact with patients,” he says. “As a surgeon, a technician, I have a vision and sometimes it’s hard to articulate it, but Kristin understands it and is able to help bring it to life in every aspect of the practice.”
“I think Blake and I make a great team because we share the same goals and philosophy about patient care,” says Kristin. “Blake and I really understand each other. We know what works and, more importantly, what doesn’t. Plus, we’re both perfectionists and never settle for anything less than great.”
The co-owners hope to create a warm, welcoming, friendly atmosphere in the practice.
“In New Orleans, Southern hospitality is alive and well, and we want to bring that to what we do here,” says Dr. Raggio. “Patients love our bedside manner and enjoy the warm, friendly interaction.”
The work of Dr. Raggio with his patients brings a huge sense of satisfaction.

Dr. Raggio listens carefully to each patient’s wishes and concerns in order to design an individualized treatment plan. It also makes sure they fully understand what it can offer them and — more importantly — what it can’t offer them.
“Sometimes the hardest thing I have to do is say ‘no’ to a patient or turn them away from a particular desired treatment or procedure,” he says.
“We’re very focused on listening to patients and educating them before we even think about going through with a procedure,” says Kristin.
“I have a duty and responsibility to the patient to provide them with a treatment plan that I feel confident will produce a beautiful result that is safe, natural and in line with classical beauty standards – a result that we would both be happy with and proud of. that I share,” says Dr. Raggio.
Dr. Raggio has an artistic eye and a keen appreciation for beauty, which he says are essential traits for a plastic surgeon.
“It’s about understanding facial proportions, balance and harmony, and determining how to maximize that person’s features to their fullest potential,” she says.
These principles allow him to “deliver a subtle, natural effect that stands the test of time,” he says.
