New video shows how a man bleeding from the head after a hair transplant was arrested along with his wife after they refused to get off a flight in Miami on Tuesday.
Eugenio Hernandez boarded the American Airlines plane to Las Vegas with a bleeding forehead and wrapped in bandages. He said his doctor cleared him to fly and he had paperwork saying so, but flight attendants told him to leave after seeing his bloody head.
The couple refused.
In the new video, Hernandez can be seen arguing with authorities, again showing a paper saying he was cleared to fly, issued by the Care4Hair clinic, which said it performed the procedure.
The officer says the pilot still doesn’t want him on board.
“My question is…will you join us now so the flight can begin?” the officer asks.
When Hernandez tries to talk back to the officer, he orders the flight to land.
Video later shows Hernandez leaving the gate in handcuffs.
Hernandez described what happened when he was released from jail Tuesday night.
A man bleeding from the head after a hair transplant was arrested along with his wife after they refused to get off a flight in Miami. NBC6’s Lorena Inclán reports.
“I’m in a lot of pain. I have pain here and pain here in my head,” he said.
Hernandez said he flew from Las Vegas to Miami to get a hair transplant and liposuction. But when he and his wife were on the flight home, he said passengers alerted flight attendants with concerns about his bleeding and medical condition.
“You need to get out because somebody doesn’t like what you have in your head,” Hernandez said he was told.
Hernandez gave NBC6 a paper from his doctor that said he was cleared to fly and return to work without restrictions.
The flight attendant told him she didn’t care, he said, and the situation escalated.
“He tells me either get out or I’ll call the police. I said, call the police, because this is unfair. I paid for my flight. I have nothing illegal in my package. Everything is fine,” Hernandez said.
His wife, Yusleydis Loyola, who also underwent cosmetic surgery, went live on TikTok while thousands watched.
Police said the pair were arrested for refusing to comply after multiple warnings.
“All of this could have been avoided if they had simply followed the officers’ orders or request to evacuate the aircraft,” said Miami-Dade County Police spokesman Argemis Colome.
A man has been bailed out of jail after he and his wife were arrested for refusing to get off a plane when flight attendants told him to leave on health grounds. NBC6’s Kim Wynne reports.
The couple hired an attorney, Michael Iglesia, to fight the charges.
“We believe they were obviously discriminated against because of their appearance after a medical procedure that was necessary,” he said. “They showed this permit to the Americans… They went through security without a problem, the Americans then allowed them on the flight and actually gave them priority on the flight to help them and make it more convenient and only after the other passengers complained about their appearance and were asked to disembark the flight.”
Care4Hair declined to give a statement to our sister station Telemundo 51, but said they had posted a video on Instagram explaining that patients could not fly the same day as their hair transplant. Hernandez’s paper, however, is signed and dated the same day as his surgery.
The pair were charged with trespassing and resisting arrest.
American Airlines said in a statement: “While boarding American Airlines Flight 1858 on August 19th from Miami (MIA) to Las Vegas (LAS), two customers became disruptive and did not comply with the instructions of crew members . Law enforcement responded and removed both customers from the aircraft. We thank our crew members for their professionalism and apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.”
