Dental AI bridges awareness and action. Majority of respondents would be more likely to take their dentist’s recommendations when validated by AI
Nine out of 10 Americans have experienced dental disease, and yet it is the most treatable of all possible health problems. Data and clinical experience show that dental AI helps bridge awareness and action, reducing the need for complex and invasive treatments and preventing long-term health problems
BOSTON, December 11, 2023–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Video Healththe leading artificial intelligence dental software company, today announced the results of a new survey that found that more than 90 percent (94%) of consumers surveyed agree that untreated oral problems, such as tooth decay and unhealthy gums, affect directly on overall physical health and disease risk, suggesting that public health campaigns designed to raise awareness of the long-term impact of oral disease on overall health are working.
However, there is a disconnect between awareness and action. Despite recent and repeated warnings from World Health Organisation, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, American Heart AssociationThe American Stroke Association and many others, the majority of Americans (81%) surveyed have questioned or hesitated to commit to a treatment recommended by their dentist. In fact, nearly a third (31%) will not seek dental treatment at all until the pain is too much to manage or simply ignore the problems altogether.
While it’s hard to imagine anyone refusing to treat conditions ranging from a broken ankle to heart disease, that’s exactly what Americans do when it comes to their oral health. The main reasons given for questioning or hesitating to commit to a recommended treatment include cost (53%), fear or pain (28%) and because the problem doesn’t seem too painful or problematic (18%).
Receiving early dental treatment can save significant money and time and prevent more complicated and invasive treatments and long-term health problems.

When told that AI could see things on a dental x-ray that a dentist couldn’t spot with the naked eye, six in 10 (59%) said they would be more likely to take their dentist’s recommendation with even higher for the baby. They rise to almost seven in 10 (65%). The consistency between geography, education level and gender shows broad agreement among consumers.

In some cases, when a small cavity is detected at an early stage, only a $20 to $50 fluoride treatment may be needed. Conversely, delaying treatment could create a larger cavity and require more invasive dental treatment such as filling, crown or root canal which could cost anywhere from $200 to nearly $2,000.
