ATLANTA — He calls himself Atlanta’s top veneer specialist, but the Fulton County District Attorney says Brandon Dillard has been practicing dentistry and medicine for years without a license.
“Brandon Dillard is not a dentist. He was never a dentist. And as much as he wants to play one on Instagram, he’s not,” Fulton County Deputy District Attorney Will Wooten said.
District attorneys and Atlanta police raided the offices of “A List Smiles Atlanta” in northeast Atlanta on Thursday.
The company has 157,000 Instagram followers and has been in business since 2021, but arrest warrants for Dillard say he is not a licensed dentist and illegally performed veneers.
Only a licensed dentist can legally perform the veneers that Dillard’s offers in Georgia. But “A List Smiles” social media pages show the smiles of satisfied patients and promote promotions such as sweepstakes for $5,500 worth of veneers.
“If you went into it and thought it was a dental office and looked at the equipment, it appears to be legit. But that’s what the best scammers do, is they do everything they can to look legit. And in this case, it is an illegal business. The problem is that the consequences are on someone’s health,” Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis said. Channel 2 consumer researcher Justin Gray.
MORE STORIES FROM 2 INVESTIGATIONS:
Dillard is charged with eight felonies, including practicing dentistry without a license, practicing medicine without a license and theft by deception.
“It seems reliable. It looks professional. And that’s part of the scam,” Wooten said.
Dillard also reportedly held training sessions for people around the country on veneers — charging more than $6,000 to become a “Veneer Expert.”
But the DA’s office says that in Georgia there is no such thing as a specialist veneer or a veneer technician legally.
“Many, many people paid for this defendant to receive training on how to do this illegal behavior. I am not interested in chasing these faces. I’m interested in them stopping this work and finding out who they are because they are victims too,” Willis said.
He is asking for both people who were patients and people who were trained by Dillard to come forward.
Willis says that while she considers the veneer specialists trained by Dillard to be victims, if they continue to practice without a license they will also face criminal charges.
“They were getting people to come and take these classes so you could get rich too. But you were getting rich doing something that is completely illegal,” Willis said.
Incorrectly placed veneers can lead to infections and other serious medical problems.
“We’ve had dentists not only locally, but also out of state, come in and report that they are concerned about their patients who had received services at this location and the long-term effects of the damage,” Willis said.
Any patient or practitioner or other potential victim is asked to contact the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office by email at Fcda.fraudtips@fultoncountyga.gov.
