A hair restoration surgeon has revealed his little-known tips for boosting hair growth fast.
A 10-minute daily habit, products designed to care for locks, and nutritional supplements are among Dr. Munir Somji.
Dr Somji is a hair restoration surgeon and Chief Medical Officer of Clinical Aesthetics based in the UK Dr. Medispa.
Speaking to the US Sun, he shared his most underrated methods of promoting hair growth.
PRECIOUS MINUTES
Dr. Somji said it’s important to talk to a health professional first to rule out underlying medical conditions that could compromise hair growth.
“There are a number of reversible causes of hair loss that you may need blood tests for, including B12 deficiency, folate deficiency, vitamin D deficiency and iron deficiency,” he said.

“Stress, lifestyle, poor dietary intake, poor sleep and elevated cortisol levels can all affect hair growth as well.”
But a relaxing daily habit could have a huge impact on the health of your tresses.
“I feel like one of the most underrated tips is to massage your scalp every day,” she said.
“This improves circulation and stimulates blood flow and stimulates the hair follicles.

“The scalp has a very good regenerative capacity, so you can regenerate it yourself by massaging every day for about 10 minutes, even if it’s in the shower while washing your hair or with a little oil.”
POWERFUL PRODUCTS
Dr. Somji advised against using products that contain chemicals such as sulfates, parabens, silica, and formaldehyde, as they can cause miscarriage.
She said permanent hair loss can also be caused by using strong waxes and gels that ‘starve’ the locks and cause alopecia areata.
“In pharmacies, you can find 2% minoxidil for women and 5% minoxidil for men, this is a topical solution that stimulates hair growth,” he said.
“There are also hair and scalp care products that can help, such as products that contain keratin that can help coat the hair.
EXCELLENT PREPARATION
Treatments such as Keravive and microneedling can also improve scalp health and reduce hair loss.
However, it’s important to consider the impact that styling habits like heat tools, dyeing, and bleaching will have when trying to grow tresses.
One of the biggest causes of alopecia areata leading to hair transplantation in patients who come to my clinic is the use of hair extensions.

“Using heat when styling hair is extremely damaging,” she said.
“They damage the outer cortex of the hair shaft, and constant pulling can also lead to traction alopecia.”
He added that there are new low-level laser combs that help stimulate microcirculation in the scalp and help with various hair conditions.

“They add weight to the hair and cause alopecia areata, and if you have the genes for female pattern hair loss, it can accelerate the symptoms.”
food for thought
Genetics are responsible for up to 60-70% of how your hair looks, the doctor said.
But blood tests are vital to identify any nutritional deficiencies that may be hindering hair health.
A deficiency can be treated with “good quality multivitamins” and dietary changes.
“You want to make sure you have a diet that contains all the necessary vitamins and minerals,” he said.
“Vitamin B12, folate, iron supplements, vitamin D supplements, are essential as well as omega 3 antioxidants in your diet.”
