A video of Nigerian superstar musician, Peter Okoye of PSquare don fame has gone viral on social media via im dey hospital for Turkey to undergo hair transplant.
For the video I post on social media, Mr. P tok says I’m uncomfortable with my hair “but now I want to do something about who I am.”
Later post a video of the upswing as the treatment progresses, telling my fans they are not removing 2,400 hairs from my head.
Hair transplants are not very common for Nigeria, but it is a fairly regular procedure for Europe and parts of the western world.
Reports say that Turkey is not going to the destination to get hair back on a budget. Thousands of visitors from Europe and the Middle East flock during the month of Hebrew.
With more than 350 clinics in Istanbul alone, the industry is booming and worth about $1 billion to the country’s economy.
How much to transplant?
According to di UK National Health Service“A UK fit hair transplant costs between £1,000 and £30,000, depending on the extent of the hair loss, the type of procedure and the clinic being carried out.”
The number of hair transplants from the patient should be determined by the price the patient will pay. A 700 hair transplant, for example, costs around £1,500 – £3,000. Customization is higher depending on the surgeon. But a 3,000 hair transplant costs around £6,500 to £7,000
For Turkey, a 2000 (Mr P own na 2400) hair transplant costs between £2,000 and £4,500. Again, prices vary by facility and the medical staff handling the procedure.
How is the process?
For 2016, Chris, a 30-year-old database manager from Bradford, followed the BBC tok about my own hair transplant journey in Turkey, and gives a clear account of what the process is like.
“First you go to lie on your side to inject the anesthetic into the back of your scalp – I can’t say it’s painful, but you go and do 20 to 30 shots to make sure you don’t feel anything.
“Then start with the extraction of the two follicles. Again, the process is not painful, but hearing and feeling a motorized follicle extraction punch from the back of your head is a little uncomfortable.
“Then let’s go get you settled and take you to a light dinner before they come back for the actual transplant to take place.
“Again, I feel no pain and fit to do wetin dem bin dey do with the pressure and apply as I introduce new follicles.
“All in all, the surgery bin lasts about 7 to 8 hours, but I think that’s pretty good with the number of grafts I do.”
How long do you see changes?
The NHS said after a hair transplant procedure, the surgeon is supposed to tell you how you’re going to look after your transplant. Let’s say they give you a spray whenever you want to use it to help hair repair and growth.
“You have to be very careful with your transplanted hair in the first two weeks after your operation, bicos di grafts are never safe,” said the consultant.
After a few weeks, the transplanted hair falls out and later begins to grow back. After 4 months: new hairs usually start to appear and after 10 to 18 months after the full effect, we assume it is clear.
Any side effect?
One of the most common side effects after a hair transplant, according to the NHS, na:
- a tight, sore and swollen scalp for a few days
- temporary scabies with hair transplantation (scab and a dry, rough patch that appears after the wound has healed)
- a single scar or a series of very tiny scars
It is also common in any type of surgery that says there is a small risk of bleeding,
infection or allergic reaction to anaesthetic, but let the surgeon assume he is handling these.
The low risk also says that the transplant application has no effect and the hairs simply fall out or noticeable scars are created.
Your doctor is going to not explain the differences and how to handle it if it happens.
Celebrities get hair transplants
Hair transplant does not help many popular pipo to regain their confidence.
For 2011, Wayne Rooney, Way Bin Day, played for Manchester United, tweeted that I do bicos hair transplant “I doy go bald at 25”.
Fellow footballer Bin Day use the bald head to tease me, and at one point Rooney reminds Michael Owen that he’s talking about baldness and the “sensitive subject”.
Also, British comedian Jimmy Carr revealed that I am a hair transplant recipient, but “it’s not like I’m saying someone’s donating hair to me. Surgeons just take hair from the back of my head, come and replant it in the front.”
