new York, March 14, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — In a collaborative effort, double board certified New York facial plastic surgeon, Sam RizkMD, FACScollaborates with esteemed colleague Double Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon, Anil Shah, MD, FACS, to present the findings of a study exploring new aspects of rhinoplasty.
The study delves into the intricacies of a rhinoplasty technique that reshapes the nose by adjusting the longus muscle. The goal is to understand the anatomy of the pectoris muscle using existing anatomical terms and to update its role. This research looks closely at how manipulation of the procerus affects the shape of the nose, important in determining both length and angles of the nose. The study concluded that removing part or all of the progenitor helps improve the frontal angle of the nose.
Dr. Rizk has adjusted or removed the longus muscle with great success in approximately 950 of the 6,000 rhinoplasty procedures he has performed. As a result of these findings and collaborative research, he and Dr. Shah concluded that hernia excision is a highly effective way to change the frontal angle of the nose.
Improving the nasolabial angle on the noses is vital for a natural result. If this angle is too obtuse, the nose looks unnatural in its attachment to the forehead. Addressing the rectus muscle in this area is new and represents a paradigm shift as rhinoplasty has so far focused more on the bones rather than the muscles in this area.
Dr. Rizk shares that of the 950 cases where procerus changed, 70 percent were revisions. This statistic highlights the unparalleled expertise of Dr. Rizk in dealing with previous rhinoplasty challenges. In particular, in cases of revision where the protuberance is enlarged or pushed forward, it has the potential to create an unnatural fusion between the nose and the forehead, without the defining angle.
“This study is a game changer,” says Dr. Rizk. “We’re not just enhancing beauty, we’re rewriting the rules for achieving facial harmony. Our findings will empower people to make informed choices about their appearance, instilling confidence in every consideration.”
