A SELF-TITLED veneer specialist has been arrested and charged with practicing for years without a licence.
Brandon Dillard lured patients with flashy Instagram ads and a sleek office, but their health was put at risk as soon as they sat in his chair, a prosecutor alleges.
On Thursday, federal agents raided Dillard’s Georgia A List Smiles Atlanta office and found what appeared to be a regular dental practice.
However, beneath the standard equipment was a dark secret – Dillard was allegedly putting the safety and health of patients at serious risk with unlicensed services.
“Brandon Dillard is not a dentist. He never was,” Fulton County Deputy District Attorney Will Wooten told the ABC affiliate. WSBwho first broke the story.
“And as much as he wants to play one on Instagram, he’s not.”
Dillard’s has amassed over 150,000 followers on Instagram by sharing photos of satisfied customers and offering veneer raffles for $5,500 worth of services.
Just a week ago, she shared a video of a “wonderful smile makeover” that garnered nearly 1,000 likes.
He also showed several patients who came in with braces and came out with veneers.
Additionally, his company, A List Smiles, had a website where patients could make appointments or spend an alarming amount of money on whitening products.
Veneers are thin coverings that are placed over the teeth to create a whiter, straighter smile.
Because the natural tooth is covered by the veneer, it is important that the procedure is performed skillfully to protect the bone underneath.
Dillard taught “special veneer” classes for those who wanted to begin performing the procedures.
Who is Brandon Dillard?
BRANDON Dillard was charged with practicing dentistry without a license.
Dillard’s is a social media star, attracting over 100,000 followers on Instagram with eye-catching ads for his services.
A self-titled “veneer specialist,” Dillard consistently posted videos of happy customers showing off their bright white smiles.
But prosecutors allege he did so without the proper license and put all his patients at risk.
“Brandon Dillard is not a dentist. He never was,” Fulton County Deputy District Attorney Will Wooten told the ABC affiliate. WSBwho first broke the story.
“And as much as he wants to play one on Instagram, he’s not.”
According to prosecutors, this certification is completely false.
“They were luring people to come take these classes so you could get rich,” said District Attorney Fanny Willis.
“But you were getting rich doing something completely illegal.”
At first glance, Dillard’s office looks perfectly normal, but prosecutors say it’s all part of the plan.
“If you walked into it and you thought it was a dental office and you looked at the equipment, it appears to be legit,” Willis said.
“But that’s what the best scammers do, is they do everything they can to look legit.”
Dillard practiced dentistry without a license from Jan. 8, 2021, to Sept. 23, 2024, according to the criminal complaint.
He is currently behind bars facing felony charges for practicing without a license.
Willis is asking any former Dillard’s patients to come forward.
Anyone trained by Dillard’s is also in hot water, as they could face charges if they practice without a license.
“We’ve had dentists not only locally, but also out of state, come in and report that they are concerned about their patients who had received services at this location and the long-term effects of the damage,” Willis said.
