A facelift, neck lift, and forehead lift are similar procedures, often performed together, that tighten your skin and redeploy fat under your skin.
Together or separately, these lifts can have a dramatic effect on your appearance, helping you look younger by reversing some of the natural effects of aging. A face and neck lift can be used to treat:
- Loose skin around your cheeks, jaw and neck
- Excess fat or underlying structures that have moved
- Lowered or drooping eyebrows
- Bandage of skin caused by either excess skin or visible muscles
- Smile lines or wear lines around your mouth, cheeks and forehead
Personalized care
At MU Health Care, our expert surgeons offer many options to make sure we help you get the results you’re looking for. During your initial visit, our surgeons will ask you questions about your medical history and the goals of your cosmetic journey, providing a welcoming place to ask questions and feel confident in your choices.
Depending on your personal goals and the characteristics of your face and skin, your surgeon may recommend one or a combination of the following procedures:
Face lifting
A facelift uses the same incisions around your ears to give your surgeon access to your face below the eyes. This procedure can help change the appearance of your skin near your mouth, cheeks, and above your jawline by tightening skin, removing fat, and changing other target areas.
Forehead lift
A forehead lift uses incisions in your hairline to change the targeted areas above your eyes. This often includes forehead lines and loose skin, as well as pulling your eyebrows up if they’re blocking your vision.
Neck lift
A neck lift uses small incisions under the chin and behind and around your ears. This procedure is more intensive and requires general anesthesia. Your surgeon will use these incisions to remove skin and fat, relax the muscles in your neck causing skin bands, and change the appearance of your jawline and neck.
Mini neck lift
A mini neck lift uses small incisions under your chin to remove loose skin and correct small strips of skin. Mini lifts can be done as an outpatient procedure, meaning you receive local anesthesia and can go home the same day.
Thread lift
A thread lift uses loops of medical sutures to prevent sagging of the skin around the temples. It’s a gentler procedure for people who don’t have extra skin on their face, but the stitches aren’t permanent, which means their effect will wear off.
Why choose MU Health Care?
All facelift procedures are surgical procedures, which means choosing a trained and qualified plastic surgeon is an important step in your journey. Our surgeons are all board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS), which means they can offer you the latest treatments to maximize your benefit. We prioritize your safety by carefully reviewing your pre-operative photos and medical history with our entire team of surgeons and have a surgeon available 24 hours a day in case of an emergency.
During your initial consultation and pre-op appointment, your surgeon will talk to you about the risks and side effects and what to expect before and after surgery. Most patients return home with little to mild pain and swelling and can resume work and normal activity within 2-3 weeks.
Good candidates for a face lift are people who do not have serious heart or lung disease, are at a stable weight or close to their ideal weight, and are non-smokers. If you smoke, be prepared to stop smoking for six weeks before surgery and six weeks after surgery.
