Ellen DeGeneres is no longer interested in chasing a youthful look.
The 66-year-old comedian opened up about her decision to forgo plastic surgery in her new and latest Netflix special ‘For Your Approval’, telling fans she’s embracing aging.
“I used to say I didn’t care what other people thought about me,” she told the special. “I realize now, looking back, that I said that at the height of my popularity.”
“Hey, if I look older than the last time you saw me, it’s because I’m older than the last time you saw me. And I also stopped doing botox and fillers.”
The comic, who has been living under the radar following allegations of a toxic working environment on the set of her eponymous talk show which ended in 2022, also revealed that she had been dealing with a number of health problems in recent months.
“I had botox and fillers when I didn’t care what other people thought of me…it was such a waste of time to worry about what other people thought of us,” she said.
“Just a waste of energy. We’re just guessing, we don’t know. It’s impossible to guess what people are thinking.”
DeGeneres discovered she had “full blown” osteoporosis – a disease that causes bones to become weak and prone to fracture – after undergoing a bone density test.
“I don’t even know how I’m standing right now. I’m like a human sandcastle. I could pass out in the shower,” she explained. “It’s hard to be honest about aging and look cool.”
“I was in excruciating pain one day and thought I tore a ligament or something and had an MRI and they said, ‘No, it’s just arthritis.’
“I said, ‘How did I know?’ And he said, ‘Oh, it happens at your age,'” she added.
The comic also added that he has been diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD).
“Well, I have ADD, I have OCD – I’m losing my memory,” she revealed. “But I think I’m well-adjusted because I obsess over things, but I don’t have the attention span to stay with it, and I quickly forget what I was obsessed with in the first place.”
“Well, I think I need to be well adjusted,” he added.
DeGeneres said she only received the diagnosis after she left her long-running daytime talk show following a series of allegations that surfaced in 2020 accusing the comedian of running a toxic workplace.
The comedic actress revealed she was diagnosed with these conditions while undergoing treatment following allegations she created a working environment on her talk show that caused “racism, fear and bullying”.
“I was in therapy for a while trying to deal with all the hate that was coming at me,” she shared. “And you know, it wasn’t a normal situation for a healer to deal with.”
“Ellen Degeneres: For Your Approval” is streaming on Netflix.
