On March 7, 2024, CDC Dental Management, Co., LLC dba Kids Care Dental & Orthodontics (“Kids Care”) filed a data breach notification with the California Attorney General after discovering that it had been the target of a recent cyber attack. In this notice, Kids Care explains that the incident resulted in an unauthorized party accessing consumers’ sensitive information, which includes their names, social security numbers, driver’s license numbers, state identification numbers, dates of birth , medical information, health insurance information, billing and claim information, and health insurance information. After completing its investigation, Kids Care began sending data breach notification letters to all individuals whose information was affected by the recent data security incident.

What caused the Kids Care dental data breach?
The Kids Care Dental data breach was only recently announced and more information is expected in the near future. However, Kids Care’s filing with the California Attorney General provides some important information about what led to the breach. Kids Care also posted a statement on its website discussing the incident.
According to these sources, on June 17, 2023, Kids Care detected suspicious activity within its computer network. In response, Kids Care Dental & Orthodontics secured its system, notified law enforcement, and then began an investigation with the help of third-party data security experts to learn more about the cyberattack and whether patient information was compromised as a result.
Ultimately, this investigation revealed that an unauthorized party accessed Kids Care’s IT network on June 15, 2023, including files containing confidential patient information.
After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessed by an unauthorized party, Kids Care Dental reviewed the breached records to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were affected. Kids Care completed this process on February 29, 2024. Although the information breached varies by individual, it may include your name, social security number, driver’s license number, state ID number, date of birth , medical information, health insurance information, billing and claim information, and health insurance information.
On March 7, 2024, Kids Care Dental sent data breach letters to anyone affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of their information that was breached.
