CHICAGO, IL–(Marketwired – Apr 02, 2015) – According to Dr. Lorri Cobbins, a plastic surgeon in Chicagobreast lift surgery (mastopexia) can lift and reshape the breast for a youthful shape and projection, but the procedure cannot add significant volume. Likewise, he adds, a breast enlargement can increase the size of the breasts, but implants alone are not able to provide a significant lift. As a result, he says a combination of the two surgeries may be necessary for women who wish to lift and enlarge their breasts.
At the Aesthetic Institute of Chicago, Dr. Cobbins and her colleague, Dr Brian BraithwaiteNote that mastopexy with implants is a popular procedure among breast augmentation patients. In addition to lifting the breast to a more youthful position while simultaneously adding volume, Chicago plastic surgeons reveal that combining a breast lift with augmentation can also improve the contour of the breast, as well as help extend the longevity of the results that can to be achieved. only with mastopexy.
As for the actual procedure, Dr. Braithwaite explains that the implant will first be placed in the breast pocket, followed by excision of excess skin and tissue reshaping to achieve optimal projection and contour. The nipple is then repositioned accordingly, he adds, and the diameter of the nipple can also be reduced, if desired. Recovery from breast lift with augmentation is similar to what patients would experience if either procedure were performed without the addition of the other, Dr. Cobbins states. Patients are usually able to return to non-strenuous work after about three to four days, he says, and all activities can generally be resumed about four to six weeks after surgery.
Finally, Drs. Cobbins and Braithwaite stress the importance of seeking a board-certified plastic surgeon when considering any form of breast augmentation surgery. That way, they note, patients can be sure they’re getting the best advice, recommendations and care for their unique needs and goals.
