A Charlotte woman says she was victim of dental fraud, but now she is the one facing legal problems. He says he paid for a course to become a veneers technician and is now in legal trouble with the North Carolina Board of Dental Examiners.
Veneer technicians have become popular all over the country and some of them work here at doarolines. Dental say the professionals the practice is illegal and can cause serious health problems.
Andrea Joseph has thousands of dollars worth of dental equipment gathering dust in a room inside her home.
“I don’t want to see anyone else lose their money” said Joseph. “I don’t want to see anyone else give them their money for something that is completely illegal aand this can cause them health problems.”
Joseph he says back to 2023, a man who thought he was a dental assistant offered her a free set of veneers in exchange for a video she could use to promote his business on social media. She agreed and watched his business grow. He says he started offering lessons to teach people how to install veneer and make money.
“He makes a lot of money” said Joseph. “So that’s where the interest came for me, oh, okay, this is something I can do.”
Joseph he says he paid $$2,500 for a two-day, six-hour course Atlanta to become a veneer technician. Joseph says it included her training a kit with some items and consent forms.
“THi made it seem that since we don’t physically shave anyone’s real teeth, you don’t need that degree. You don’t have to go to dental school for eight years.
You don’t have to spend over $100,000 to do this because we teach you $2,500″, said Joseph.
The lesson is over and received a framed certificate with the company and trainer’s name. Joseph says bought equipment and started practice to customers. smallposted video to me hernstagram and TikTok page and says real professional dentists started calling her.
“They were real dentists. They were dental assistants.” said Joseph. “It was a bunch of different people coming out making the same videos and saying this is illegal. You can really hurt people.”
Joseph she says stopped taking clients with no return on her investment. Last week, a sheriff’s deputy served her a civil war notice from North Carolina Board of Dental Examiners.
“WWhen I started reading it, I think this is from the painting. Like, this is serious, it’s not just a customer.” said Joseph. “This is bigger than that.”
THE NC sihorde of heyorder mxaminers says there was one uptick in complaints about unlicensed dental work.
In a statement to WCCB Newsthe CEO of the Board of Directors saysmall “TThe board aggressively pursues cases of unauthorized/illegal practice of dentistry when it receives a complaint.
Many of these cases involve the placement of veneers as well as other procedures that require a dental license under state law.”
Joseph says she lost thousands of dollars and her smile is not what it seems.
“I can’t brush my teeth now without my gums bleeding, it’s bad” said Joseph. “So now I have to seek real dental work from a real dentist and pay him to fix my smile.”
We reached out to the company where Joseph says she got veneer tech training. The owner declined to comment, but said he has not worked or hosted a class doprostitute.
Joseph says he has contacted the dental board and they say they won’t fine her if she gives a written statement that she is no more installs veneer.
