A young British woman has died days after undergoing a breast lift operation in Turkey, it has been reported.
Demi Agoglia, 26, complained of chest pains just hours before she was due to return home to Manchester, northern England.
Her family said she was returning to the Istanbul clinic for a check-up after the notoriously “dangerous” procedure, commonly known as BBL, but suffered a heart attack in a taxi on the way to hospital.
The mum-of-three’s partner, Bradley Jones, desperately gave her CPR and she was rushed to intensive care, but doctors were unable to save her. The sun References.
According to the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS), the mortality rate for BBLs is estimated to be one in 3000 procedures — meaning it has a higher death rate than any other cosmetic procedure.
Demi, who was pronounced dead on Monday, is believed to have suffered a series of heart attacks caused by a fat embolism, although she was told her operation was a success.
The mother, who gave birth to her youngest son just seven months ago, had flown to Turkey despite previously having failed dental work in the popular medical tourism destination.
Her brother Karl, 37, explained that her family and partner tried to talk Demi out of having the work done – and warned anyone else considering going to Turkey for surgery. “Don’t do it,” said the dad-of-four.
“It is tragic what happened. We are just in shock.
“He had left in the past [to Istanbul] to fix her teeth. Nobody wanted to come out and do it, but he’s one of those people.”
Carl went on to explain that their dad had just flown to Turkey to help Bradley, stating that “nobody wanted” Demi to get the cosmetic surgery.
“If anyone is thinking of flying to Turkey for business, I would say don’t do it. Even her boyfriend didn’t want to do it,” she said.
“But she’s 26 and has a mind of her own.”
He continued: “We were told her boyfriend had to perform CPR on her in a taxi.
“We believe they both went back to the clinic for a checkup and that he collapsed at the clinic.
“They put her in a taxi with her partner. Something happened in the taxi. He couldn’t breathe.
“He had to do CPR. I don’t know if he came and died in the hospital. This is unclear. We don’t know the full details.
“I believe there will be a coroner’s report there. Her partner needs a death certificate before he can return home.’
Carl went on to say “he shouldn’t die – he’s only 26”.
Younger sister Georgina posted a touching video tribute on TikTok featuring Demi.
She wrote: “I lost my sister yesterday. I miss you so much Demi. Nothing is real anymore. How can you leave
“I just want to hear you scream okay Rkid nothing is ever the same without you I love you Demi.”
Demi and her siblings only recently learned that their mom Christine had beaten a battle with cancer.
A source said: “Demi’s family and partner are heartbroken. The doctors told her that the operation was successful and that she is recovering for a few days, as you are not allowed to fly home immediately.
“She had to fly home to her children on Monday. At 4.30am on Monday morning she woke up in a lot of pain and her partner hit a taxi.
“Looks like he died in the taxi. CPR was attempted on the way and she was rushed to intensive care but they could not save her and she was pronounced dead in the early hours of the morning.
“Doctors at the hospital believe she suffered a fat embolism that affected her lungs and put pressure on her heart, causing heart attacks.
“She has left behind three young children. People need to understand how dangerous surgery can be abroad.”
Friends have since paid tribute to the young mother, describing her as ‘the life of the party’.
“Shine so bright on your beautiful boys Demi Agoglia and send them the strength they will need to get through this,” wrote one.
“Oh so sad RIP Demi Agoglia you were loved and will be missed by so many,” shared another.
As one added: “What a cruel world we live in… You were the life of the party and such a funny wild person. Thinking of your little boys, family and friends at this difficult time. Rest in peace Demi Agoglia.”
