A British mum died while undergoing a Brazilian butt lift from a Turkish clinic her family described as a ‘pop-up butchery’ – and to add to the horror, her body was found to be missing parts of several vital organs after her death.
Kaydell Brown had just celebrated her 38th birthday when she died on March 26 at Clinic Expert in Istanbul, where she underwent an intense three-part cosmetic procedure that included a tummy tuck, liposuction and BBL, her grieving sister Leanne. he told ITV News.
“Three people came in and said, can you come with us please?” Leanne, who was due to have the same surgery during that fateful trip, recalled the terrifying moment she was wheeled out of the waiting room.
“They took me into a room and they just started trying to say, you know, there are complications with surgery, you know things can happen. And I said, “Did my sister die?” And he just said, “I’m sorry, but yes.”
Clinic officials told Leanne that Brown died in the recovery room after the procedure.
Staff claimed they were unable to wake the mother-of-two. They thought some fat had traveled to her lungs.
Leanne was in deep shock but was not denied access to Brown’s body. Instead, staff gave her a £5,400 ($7,030) refund, booked her a flight home and whisked her out of the country.
“They just handed me an envelope and said here’s your money back and here’s your sister’s money. And here is your flight. It’s like, sorry he died, here’s your plane ticket,” he said.
“When you go in and pay, they’re your best friends, but when something goes wrong, you’re on your own, it’s goodbye.”
When Brown’s body was flown to the UK, a devastating discovery was made – large parts of her brain, lungs and heart were missing, according to the report.
Also missing were pieces of Brown’s intestines — which could indicate the mother-of-two’s cause of death.
“They sent a death certificate saying no cause of death, how come they can’t find anything?” Leanne said.
Officials at Clinic Expert told ITV News that Brown’s death was due to known complications related to the surgery and not medical error.
They admitted that it is possible that some organs were removed for an autopsy, but that it would have happened after the Clinic Expert passed along her body.
“No evidence of organ trauma was found. We handed over the body untouched to the coroner’s office (in Turkey),” a spokesman said.
The UK government confirmed it was in contact with the Turkish government, but could not confirm whether Brown was missing significant parts of her organs when she was flown back home.
“Our condolences go out to the family of Kaydell Brown,” a spokesperson told The Post.
“We urge anyone considering cosmetic surgery abroad to research the treatment in question, the qualifications of their clinician and the regulations in place in the country they are traveling to.”
BBLs have the highest mortality rate of all cosmetic procedures — with more than one death occurring per 4,000 procedures.
The buttocks contain several blood vessels, some connected directly to the heart. When a fat injection hits such a vessel, the fat can travel to the heart and lungs, blocking blood flow and causing immediate death.
