Buttock augmentation surgery – wey pipo also known as Brazilian butt-lift (BBL) – is a cosmetic surgery procedure with the fastest growth but also one of the most dangerous.
The UK government says it will meet with officials for Turkey to discuss regulations around medical and cosmetic tourism.
The meeting comes after reports of several deaths of peeps traveling to Turkey for butt augmentation.
Melissa Kerr, 31, died for Medicana Haznedar private hospital in Istanbul for 2019 during buttock enlargement surgery (Brazilian buttock lift).
A deadly bucket of clots traveled through her lungs after fat was removed from one part of her body during a liposuction procedure, come inject her buttocks.
A coroner raises concerns he says not to give her and give her enough information before she travels abroad.
Health Secretary Maria Caulfield Tock said the government was taking the issue “seriously”, in its response to a report into preventing future deaths by Norfolk’s chief coroner, Jacqueline Lake wrote.
Ms Caufield Tok says officials from the Ministry of Health and Social Care will “visit Turkey very soon to meet their counterparts”.
A mum-of-three dies for August 2020 after having liposuction for Turkey and the BBC bin reports how seven British patients die after a weight-loss operation for di kontri.
Conservative Ms Caulfield was minister for mental health and women’s health strategy, Bean offers her “sincere condolences” to Di Kerr’s family and says: “It is important that we learn the lessons of her life to prevent future deaths.” .
“It is particularly important to mention that those considering having a Brazilian butt lift (BBL) should be fully aware of the risk and given time to fully think about the decision before surgery,” said Ms Caulfield.
“The risk of death for BBL surgery is at least 10 times higher than many cosmetic procedures.”
Goment will look at how to “effectively communicate” information about the risks of going abroad, he said.
The minister said as the UK government looked globally at “the consequences of international health tourism… we have a strong interest in large numbers of British nationals traveling to Turkey for medical treatment”.
The BBC did not contact Turkey’s Ministry of Health for comment
Wetin be Brazilian butt-lift?
Dem dey use BBL to make the buttocks bigger, rounder or lifted.
Surgeons insert silicone-filled implants and inject or transfer fat from body parts from the buttocks.
Even with the risks, the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) says the procedure is the fastest growing type of cosmetic surgery and its popularity is growing by 20% every year.
Last year, BAAPS issued new guidelines for members after a four-year moratorium – suspension – on BBLs due to the high mortality rate.
They do not now recommend that only surgeons are qualified to perform a procedure called superficial gluteal lipofilling (SGL), using fat from the body, injected under the skin, while BBLs inject fat deep into the two muscles.
Dems also recommend asking surgeons to only perform SGL as the same time uses ultrasound scans so you can match see wia di cannulas dey go.
Why does Pipo like to do surgery?
The consultant clinical psychologist Dr. Anu Sayal-Bennett, a member of the British Psychological Society, says she feels drawn to celebrity culture and has social media-perfect photos behind the BBL trends.
She says celebrities like Kim Kardashian, with impressively curvy bodies, are fueling the trend.
“With so much tok-tok about body positivity, there is pressure on women – and men too – to look a certain way,” said Dr Sayal-Bennett tok.
Plastic surgeons often refer patients with diabetes to her, as they recognize the importance of psychological checks.
He says the ethics of surgeons should say if patients don’t meet the criteria they shouldn’t have an operation – but warns that there isn’t a case around the world.
Why does pipo dey travel abroad for brazilian butt lift?
Advertisements for cosmetic surgery clinics for Turkey show very nice photos of women in underwear to promote the surgery, as well as special offers for patients participating in procedures.
Dr Sayal-Bennett said the ad was “terribly seductive”.
“Glitzier ads: suit up, get your BBL, drink your cocktails and take your beach holiday and the price is cheap.
“But it’s not like that—for a major surgery.”
Money for the process and the deciding factor, Dr. Nora Nugent, BAAPS vice president tok.
“For the UK, fitting surgery costs between £6,000 and £12,000, but efit passes the amount.
“The procedure adverts I don’t see for Turkey are anywhere from £3,500 to £5,000,” adds Dr Nugent.
“Some pipo bins are going overseas and surgeons are following BAAPS guidelines and not doing the procedure between 2018 and 2022.”
Both experts agree that the glossy images from abroad do not rhyme with reality.
“Buttocks are swollen, sore and bruised, and if the fat is removed – if it’s multi-site appropriate – it’s also swollen and bruised,” explains Dr Nugent.
“You need bandages and compression bandages to keep you off the beach.”
Both doctors stress the importance of aftercare after surgery.
Why is the procedure so dangerous?
The UK inquiries were into the deaths of three women – Melissa Kerr, Abimbola Ajoke Bamgbose, from Dartford, Kent, and Leah Cambridge, from Leeds – as they traveled to Turkey for BBL or related procedures.
Pipo doesn’t die during BBLs thanks to the fat he injects into major veins when they come to travel to major organs.
High risk lethal bucket do BAAPS for 2018, tell dia members, make them no surgery.
Discover complications ranging from serious bacterial infections including MRSA, necrosis – tissue death – scarring, wound ruptures and abscesses.
For 2018, the BAAPS bin heard how a bin of London hospitals saw a six-fold increase since 2013 in cases requiring urgent follow-up from overseas surgeries.
While Ms Kerr has heard death rates are one in 4,000, Dr Nugent says more recent research does not suggest a range of one in 13,000 to 15,000 is likely.
Wetin make pipo wey dey travel go Turkey for BBL suppose we do before travel?
BAAPS bin issued a joint patient safety statement with the Turkish Society of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (TSPRAS) this year.
Various organizations are advising anyone who wants to travel to Turkey for plastic surgery to follow the new guidelines.
The post-BAAPS guidelines state that complications for patients going abroad for treatment will increase by 35% by 2022.
“We can’t stop pipo from abroad – insurance and hospital costs for the UK are too much higher,” Dr Nugent tok said.
“But at least we can’t point them to questions that let’s say they’re asking operators, how the procedure was performed, and details about routine aftercare.”
New advice for any potential patient going to Turkey includes:
- Check to find out if the Turkish surgeon is TSPRAS (Turkish Society of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons) and Turkish board certified
- Plastic surgeons assume that they have not practiced in the specialty area for at least five years
- Surgeons are supposed to offer an aftercare program and patients need to know the name and contact details of the associates
- It is mandatory for Turkey to obtain a completed consent form completed prior to travel
