“A big factor in my decision was that I am a content creator, so I always have a camera on my face. Looking back at videos, I noticed my crooked teeth more and more.
All in all, I had a great experience! The wire adjustments made eating and chewing uncomfortable for the first week after, but in my opinion, these “side effects” were worth it. It was painful at some points in the process but I am extremely happy with the results! ALL SMILES, ALL DAY! I’m much more confident and I love it!”
“As someone with severe dental anxiety, I still thought the results were worth it.”
Name: Samantha M.
Age you got braces: 34
How long have you had them: A year and a half
Price: Free (I worked in administration for an orthodontic practice and one of the perks was free braces)
Why did you get them: My teeth started to gape in the front in my early 20s and I became self conscious about it.
It was worth: Yes.
“Ironically, I have severe dental anxiety, so the process was stressful at first. That being said, even though the pain is too terrible for me (due to my anxiety), I would say the results were well worth it. I’m so happy with how my teeth look and I can’t stop smiling!”
“The experience was great, but I only regret one thing.”
Name: Sondra Z.
Age you got braces: 36
How long have you had them: 15 months old
Price: $2,000 (only had braces on my bottom teeth)
Why did you get them: My lower teeth were crowding and I wanted to fix them for aesthetic reasons.
It was worth: Yes — with one important caveat.
“I got braces for adults in 1985—so it’s been a while. But I remember when I took them out my teeth looked perfect! I always got compliments on my smile before and after, but after braces, I finally believed them: I felt more confident when I spoke because I wasn’t wondering if people were staring at my crooked teeth.
There is only one thing I regret: Not wearing my retainer to keep them fully in line. My teeth aren’t as crooked as they were before the braces, but I’ll admit they’ve slipped back a bit because I didn’t.’
“Getting braces in my 50s has improved my smile, appearance and confidence.”
Name: Kimberly T.
Age you got braces: 52
How long have you had them: 10 months
Price: $5,700
Why did you get them: My dentist recommended braces because of crowding in my lower jaw, which only got worse during cancer treatment.
It was worth: Yes.
“I tried Invisalign first but failed miserably (taking them out every night while I slept because of the discomfort). So I got traditional braces on my bottom teeth – and now they look great! There were times when the metal would rub against my mouth, which caused minor scrapes and cuts, but these were minor.
Wearing braces in my 50s has made me self-conscious at times, but the results speak for themselves! They have improved my smile, my overall appearance and most importantly my confidence. If you are considering this decision, I would highly recommend it!”
