As a beauty editor, people in my world seem to talk about plastic and cosmetic surgery all the time. Did he or didn’t he? Should or should not? These are questions that often lurk around the dinner table at publisher events. (I’ve openly shared my view of being in the non-toxic camp, which you can read about here.) For those who don’t have an array of beauty experts on hand, it can often be difficult to get these questions answered. you may be wondering about going under the needle or knife.
Glen Valesillos, MD, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills, recently took to Reddit to do an AMA. He covered topics ranging from the hottest procedures right now to the best way to get rid of body fat. When asked how many celebrities he’s operated on, he replied, “Too many to count,” with a frown, but also said he has clients who are children with birth defects. “My practice focuses on revision rhinoplasty and breast surgery, ultra-esthetic facial rejuvenation and Vaser 4-D high-definition lipoplasty,” he added.

Hot Right Now List
First, Dr. Vallecillos revealed that the most requested procedures at his office right now are liposuction, rhinoplasty and breast augmentation. That said, he will reject the latter because bigger is not always better. “Oversized breast implants. This can be fraught with complications in the long term, although it is a common request,” he explained.
Let’s talk fat, baby. . .
When someone comes in asking for fat, the doctor sometimes recommends more exercise. “Absolutely, we always recommend optimizing diet and exercise,” he noted. “Often people can achieve their ideal goal without the need for surgery. Liposuction can provide a new element of defined body contouring that may not be possible with diet and exercise alone.”
He also gave an opinion on whether it is better to freeze or burn fat. “I’ve had friends do freeze treatments and I can’t say I’ve seen a difference,” admitted Dr. Vallecillos. “Scientifically, both procedures work well. Neither replaces liposuction, but I like removing fat via heat-type technology (ie, SculpSure) because it’s quick with no downtime and I’ve personally seen results after doing it. done over She explained that SculpSure is a laser technology used to “specifically target and reduce fat in selected areas in 25 minutes.”
How to avoid getting stuck
Dr. Vallecillos feels bad for anyone who goes overboard — sometimes antiaging surgeries can make you look older. One Redditor brought up the late Joan Rivers as an example. “Our practice philosophy is ‘anti-plastic surgery’ which means we believe less is more and in the ideal world the perfect plastic surgery result is literally invisible to the naked eye creating a natural aesthetic balance,” he noted. “I personally think that people who overdo it give our profession a bad name, when in fact the field of plastic surgery is very unique and has the ability to change people’s lives in amazing ways.”
Social media is to blame for these notable cases of plastic and cosmetic surgery becoming more mainstream. “I think the current trends we’re seeing are fueled in part by media and social norms creating an imbalance in the face and body,” she argued. “Examples of this are overly chiseled lips and buttocks. Take Brazilian butt lifts for example, while the current trends are to create disproportionately large buttocks, I don’t think too many people, including plastic surgeons themselves, consider them Although may look good now, your butt may not look so great 30 years from now when your soft tissues have thinned and aged.”
What the future holds
It seems that plastic surgery is getting more and more innovative – and maybe a little more creepy. “In the near future I believe we will see major advances in the field of biologics, meaning we will be able to harness the utility of growth factors and stem cells to perform transformational procedures in regenerative medicine,” he said. “Examples of this would be the ability to grow organs in the lab, eliminating the need for organ donors and specifically in cosmetic medicine, the advances seen in 3D printing will allow soft tissue to be created in a lab with great precision that plastic surgeons will do. they can be used in restorative operations’.
His thoughts on McSteamy
One Redditor joked: “What do you think of Dr. Mark Sloan?” [Editor’s note: this is the hot doctor on Grey’s Anatomy.] To which, he replied, “I wish I had his job haha.”
