DARWIN, NORTHERN CHURCH, AUSTRALIA, 27 March 2024 /EINPresswire.com/ — The impact of a smile on one’s beauty and self-confidence is simply undeniable. Unfortunately, most people are not happy with their smile, for a variety of reasons, including discoloration, chipped or broken teeth, gaps, misshapen teeth, and other cosmetic issues. But people dealing with dental (cosmetic) issues no longer need to feel low self-esteem. Dental veneers have emerged as the optimal solution to cover dental imperfections and increase self-confidence.
Dr. Rumana from Your Dentist Darwin says: “Veneers are a great option for people who are unhappy with their smile or the size of their teeth.” She also lends her knowledge to help people further understand veneers.
As he explains, veneers are made from either porcelain or composite resin, which will serve as a “cover” for the natural teeth. Unlike crowns that cover both sides of the teeth and require the natural tooth to be filled in, veneers do not require much reshaping and are fitted solely to the front of the tooth. It also has its own advantage of letting individuals choose their desired shade of white and correct any gaps or imperfections in the teeth being treated.
Dr. Rumana explains the steps involved in the veneer process
>> First, during the initial consultation, doctors start the treatment by taking pictures to assess and plan the right treatment.
>> The assessment will be followed by a mock-up or trial smile for demonstration prior to the start of treatment and for patient approval.
>> With the approval of the patient, the teeth in need of treatment are reshaped as per the requirements and impressions will be made and sent to the Dental Ceramists for the preparation of the final veneers.
>> In the meantime, temporary veneers will be placed on the prepared teeth, as it may take a few weeks for the final veneers to be ready.
>> Once the final veneers are ready, they will be tested and adjusted to ensure a precise fit. Finally, they are glued to the teeth, after the patient approves and does not feel any discomfort.
Difference between porcelain and composite resin
As previously mentioned, veneers are made using porcelain and composite resin. It is important to understand the difference between the two before choosing the treatment.
Porcelain is a high-quality material that resembles natural teeth. They were the top choice for veneers as they have high stain resistance and durability. On the other hand, composite resin is a type of reinforced plastic. It is affordable and will typically last up to 8-10 years. However, lost luster and color can be renewed by polishing or resurfacing with new composite resin to extend its longevity.
